Little Fig and Walnut Pies

In forFront, Uncategorized on February 2, 2014 at 7:31 pm

Today we have finally had a winter’s day after a whole winter of sunshine.  This is a perfect day to make fig and walnut pies using figs that I froze last summer from our backyard tree and walnuts that we bought from a guy in North Sacramento.  I decided to make little baked pies because we love the crust!  Here are the ingredients for the filling.

1 lb dried fig
1 orange zest
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup whiskey
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup maple sugar

Just chop of the figs in your food processor and mix everything together and then place a dollop of the mixture on 4 x 4 squares of pie crust and fold it up, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.  Bake at 375 until nicely golden browned.  For the crust, use the vodka pie crust recipe–it is by far the easiest and best in the world!
